LED dial random bacteria and growing !

Have a wierd problem for the experts .

Bought my 2008 BoxterS 9 months back
(Brilliant , saw off a black lotus evora today).

On the center clock, LED , where tire pressures / MPH display I noticed a wierd cluster of little white marks about .5 cms x .8 cms, sort of like bacteria in a petri dish .

Well its growing, little by little and now its getting intrusive.
I am guessing it really is some kind of bacteria eating the backing on the LED ?
(Guess theres nowhere to post a picture ?)

Anyone ever seen anything like this, expect it to take the whole LED in time.
If that happens expect an expensve replacement will be in the works, how much with that cost in the USA ?

Failing crystal

What you are seeing is the failing of the LCD crystal display. Not completely uncommon and seems to have some relationship to outside temp. Mine will go from 2 dots noticed to %70 covered by what looks like a snowflake. Snowflake has only apeared once, but size of intrusion changes regularly.

Only solution I know of is to swap out the display (I just live with mine as it is mostly unintrusive as the 2 dots are at the very bottom.)

Good news it is not contagious and neither you nor the car need any meds

My car had that when I bought it. I told myself that I would look into replacing the gage, but within a few weeks the problems started receding. Inside of two months it cleared itself up and has never been back since.

I chalk it up to the car liking me more than the previous owner
