*Poll* How fast have you gone in the Boxster?
Sorry for the redundant question, but I wanted to see this broken down into a Poll. Please contribute and be honest!

Possible that they mistook mph for km/h.
Which brings me to this question: are you saying that it's not possible to do the porsce advertised 'top track speed' of 159mph in my car? ie is there some sort of governor installed? It's not that I'll be going that fast any time soon but I would think that some people would be pissed at that.

I have pushed my Boxster a number of times over 140mph. The car seems to have absolutly no trouble handling it either. My top speed was 153mph and the car was around 6000RPMs. All this was done on the 210 Passadena Fwy.

ahh the 210 -> another great place to run it up late night is just west of the actual eagle rock heading west from pasadena towards glendale on the 134 -- starting on the uphill at the fig onramp where the dump is (only trucks seem to enter here, and alomost never late night) -- accelerate there, then after that it's about 2 miles between on-ramps with downhill and a large curve backed up by the chevy chase mountains so no one popping up way behind you can see and opposing traffic is 15 feet below so they can't see you -- slow it down when you approach the harvey onramp just past the 2 freeway exit.

What kind of tires do have and what air pressures are you running?

I did 151mph the other day when trying to lose a 350Z. I couldn't shake him though. 140 is no problem but, I really hope the 2 people that said the needle was pegged had 996 engines swapped in or they are lying. I wonder if the digi speedo keeps going up if the analog needle is pegged at 175mph? Mmmmm.

Remember the standard Box doesn't have a much lower top speed but it's speedo only goes to 160. So that would be a little easier to get pegged.

When people risk their lives, shouldn't it be for something very important?
Well, it better be.
But what is so important about driving faster than anyone else?
Lots of people go through life doing things badly. Racing's important to men who do it well.
When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting.

No Liar Here
144 mph 2001 Boxster, 5 speed, top down, mirrors folded in, outskirts of Vegas other side of Hoover Dam. 29psi front tires, 36psi rear. Seemed fully out of breath at 140 took a good 20 seconds to gain the last 4mph, would imagine top up would enable another 4 mph, and lowering rear wing would enable 153mph or so.

You might gain a little speed, but you'd be sacrificing your safety. Our cars make dandly little airplane wings at these speeds, creating lift. The car needs the downforce on the rear end created by the spoiler to keep the lift in check and the back end firmly on the pavement.
BTW, I took my 97 2.5 boxster out this last Sunday morning quite early and pushed it up to 112 on highway 290 inside the beltway here in Houston. V1 was on and I was watching for cops, who like to nail speeders at that time of the day.

ContiContactSport N1, 225/40/18 Fronts and 285/30/18 Rears. 29psi fronts and 36rears.
FYI would never recommend Contis...
