Tension Rope Removal

Rt. side tension rope snapped at the upper socket assembly.
I have the replacement part but removal of the upper socket (that attaches to the convertible top) is proving to be difficult.

There must be an easy way to remove this part.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the instructions for roof installation on Mikes website. Basically you will remove the weatherstrip and rail above the side window and then unscew the metal roof bracket. You may have to take off one side on the front window weatherstrip. The top fabric is glued to the bracket and you will have to peel it back and re-glue afterwards. The cable attaches to a spring attached to the bracket

Is this the tension rope on the back that you are supposed to disconnect for putting the top in the service position?

Yeah, its the one that allows you access to the engine.
The bottom socket of course pops off easily.

In looking closer at the top socket I noticed a small wire that apparently locks the top socket in place. I removed the wire and the top socket popped right off.
