Headlight switch won't stay out to keep fog lights on

Last night I was heading out to pick up a friend and noticed that my headlight switch felt a little off when I engaged the fog lights. It didn't fully click into position and felt like it would only go halfway between on and off. After I picked them up and tried turning them on again the switched would pull out all the way and turn on the lights but when I release it the switch just snaps back into the off position with the spring. Seems like whatever locks the switch in the fog light on position has failed.

I searched the forum and saw a bunch of problems with headlight switches but all my lights function properly. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Just need to know if it can be fixed or if I have to replace the switch.

Would the locking mechanism have anything to do with the switch that you actually see and grab or is it in the mechanical switch behind the dash?

The mechanical parts of the switch are no doubt shot.
