Brake wear

Brake wear light came on today . I know the pad are good ? What next

How do you know the pads are good?

Inspect the pads and sensors, especially on the inside of the rotors. And check you brake fluid as I believe low fluid will also trip the light. You will find the problem.

Used a old dental pick and cleaned the space between the sensor and pad and now we have no red light !

I thought that the brake pad sensors were a "one-time" use only item. When the small loop of wire in the sensor is broken, then the circuit is open and the light comes on. I don't know of a way to turn the light off without replacing the sensor (or somehow repairing the broken loop of wire in the sensor).

I say all of this because I am not sure how cleaning the space between the pad and the sensor turned the light off.

What am I missing? Can someone else explain?
