What Does A Blue Dot on Engine Mean?

I shudder to ask this question but...does anyone KNOW why there would be a BLUE DOT on the engine case (in front - between the crankshaft and idle pulley) by the serial number/engine number?

GULP! Anyone else seen this? It has lived on the west coast, if that helps. Just hoping it's a factory marking or that it has been "blueprinted", hence the blue paint….just don't say a re-build?

Looks like the original water pump at 65,000 miles. The rest of the car is bone dry leak-wise, no visible "krinkle-marks" either from being cruppled up. Minor curb damage in front only.

Any ideas? Will post a pic if nobody can I.D. why it would be there.

Lastly, where can I find out IF the engine in my car is the one the FACTORY put in?

Pretty sure it means the engine block was a casting reject, then repaired and factory reman'd on the assembly line.
Correct me if I'm wrong... it's been known to happen. Just ask my wife.

Blue paint applied very liberally at the factory indicates a engine did not pass testing the 1st time so it is remanufactured until it does pass testing. Your engine not leaking is a good sign. You should replace your waterpump with a new oem one.

With 65,000 miles, it really doesn't matter. Clearly the engine passed the required testing at the factory (or Porshe never would have installed it) and the engine is still running fine. Nothing to worry about here.

I agree with both statements.

Whew! That was a close one guys!

The water pump and engine mount were replaced last night. The bearings were just starting to make noise on the WP and the mount was not too bad but it did come apart. The rubber was Vulcanized (or heated and worn so it looked "slick").

My hands are killing me! No space under there for a regular guy….you have to have a "little persons" hands.

I thought the blue dot right in the middle of the engine meant she might have been married before….lol!

That would be a red dot. Be glad your car doesn't have that. It means it was rejected by Porsche and still sent out for a married life.
