Sticky Throttle

My 2002 S has what I would call a sticky accelerator. I know this model has an electronic throttle and I've read the threads on cleaning the throttle body. But the symptoms described for dirty throttle body aren't present. Could it be the pedal mechanism is dirty? Seems to hang up when depressed, catch before actuating the throttle. The pedal feels spongy. Any help would be appreciated.

The throttle potentiometer can become sticky. I've had to swap them out due to this symptom.

Its the unit thats driven by the pedal that transmits the driver's input into an electrical signal for the throttle plate to be actuated.
