Anyone have experience with the JVC KD-AVX77 Kameleon head unit?

I'm thinking about it since the double din install is a bit more work and $ than I really want to spend just for bluetooth streaming music and nav.

Will I need anything else to intall it or will the mounting hardware that comes with suffice?

Thanks

or if anyone has experience with any single DIN unit with bluetooth and navigation, I'd be interested in getting your thoughts.

Jvc kd nx5000

Recently installed a JVC KD NX5000 single DIN navigation headunit along with a new amplifier in my '03 Boxster S. Although the '03 has the MOST fiber optics, that really did not present any issues.

This particular unit is discontinued, but you can find them around. I have the JVC Sirius and IPod attachments installed as well.

As far as I know, single DIN Nav units are hard to find.

that's what I'm seeing. I love that kameleon unit, but i just realized it doesn't have nav. why make the whole face a lcd if you're not putting in nav??

i read some reviews on the nx5000, they looked pretty good. Any issues with it? Would you recommend any of the JVC single din nav units?

thanks!

I had a single din Harmon Kardon Trafficpro in my old boxster. It has navigation but no big screen, just turn by turn directions on a little screen. There are no current (or even recent) map updates available for it either, but at the time in 2006 to 2008 it was adequate. They come up on ebay occasionally but I am sure for the same money you can buy one that is much more advanced now.

The only downside to the NX5000 is the map update feature is not supported anymore, so you are stuck with the software for whatever the roads looked like in 2008. But, most major highways have not changed that much.

There is another option….

the JVC KW-NT3HDT ($400 on ebay) is a double DIN unit, since I have installed it,

I have not looked back….except to check the camera!

Much safer option since the blind spot in our cars is HUGE! The 2 DIN system does everything including FREE traffic updates, FREE HD Radio (no add-on units to buy), great sound and I can even play movies on DVD or saved to a memory stick!

i do like the stock look of the double din units, but i'm trying to find something single din and a bit easier to install. The ebay kit seems to still need some modification and I just don't want to mess with it that much.

with the extra $160 cost of the ebay install kit, I would think there's a single din solution available for half that cost.

These are about the only 2 I'm finding that do everything I'm looking for in a head unit:

4.3 inch Single Din Radio

and

Amazon.com: Power Acoustik PD-718NB Multimedia 7-Inch Oversize Screen In-Dash DVD with iPod-Certified Input: Car Electronics

The second seems like it could be a cool fit with the way the dash splits in my car (cup holders above the radio, cd holder and ac controls below).

They both have bluetooth streaming, nav built in, divx capability, and backup camra input.

any thoughts?
