I drove over a rock and learned that a cracked sump plate will hold oil until the engine is shut off.

Pretty much. It was at a Rallycross. I had just finished a run was turning around to line back up for another. Not one of my 'street' cars, but one that I had started parting out and then put some parts back onto to have some fun. '04 base with 190k miles, no interior or title:

Thats why I love my dishwasher armor plating I have under my car. When I go off road it takes a beating like a champ.

That's a great idea and better strength than most of the automotive scrap I have around. The sump plate is replaced now and the car is good except for cracked plastic belly panels.

I've got to ask, what is dishwasher armor plating?

Very much same principle when getting a flat tire... you can easily drive on a "flat" to the next exit/pull-off/side street etc. w/o concern (or of hurting rim). Once you stop though ...

Hey it's just like life in general so keep driving!

Good luck
