Our 986 was destroyed by Hurricane Ian! Sad day in Mudville...

What I did today

Drove to work. 24 miles each way. Masking tape on the driver’s side windshield rubber to keep the wind from making a loud reed like buzz at speeds abov 85 mph. Now that I know where it’s coming from, I will seal it. It’s a 2004 Boxster SE.

They were already gracious enough to let me do the work in their space.)

The RMS and AOS went easily. However, I could not get the IMS bearing out since the center bolt was too big for the IMS Tool. So after some more research, I found that I have an M97 engine in my 2002. FYI: There was an electrical plug close to the bottom bolt of the AOS and I couldn't fit my 3/8 drive ratchet with the Inverted Torx socket. However, I did have a 5/16" 12-point box wrench that fit perfectly. This may help those doing the AOS with the tranny in.

I did reposition the 2 difficult hose clamps behind the expansion tank to face up so it should make replacement a little easier, if necessary.

Oh and BTW, of all the videos I saw on replacing the IMSB, none of them said that the drive plate bolts are TORQUE TO YEILD. Which means they are not reusable. Maybe because the videos I saw were all of manual transmissions, and the flywheel bolts are not TTY? IDK. I'll be going to a local Porsche dealer tomorrow to pick up 8 of them.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1665440790.jpg

It's a small shop. I bought all of them lunch. Owner and 2 techs, plus I gave the guy working on it an extra tip.

I'm happy the car is fixed, but I'm getting more than usual engine vibration, especially at startup. I'm hoping they didn't ruin the tranny mounts. It's a tranny shop, not a Porsche specialty shop. Hopefully I can lift it up this weekend and look for tell-tale signs if they unbolted the wrong bolt on the mounts. Hopefully they didn't.

I installed a SOUL Performance Valved muffler bypass exhaust on my ‘98 base

I installed FEAL Coilovers, adjustable rear toe arms, new brake rotors with EBC Yellow pads, rebuilt axles and had an alignment performed on my 2004 Boxster SE this past week.

So I got it up in the air and there's no sign that they unbolted the center bolt on the mount, but there is oil on the passenger side mount. I'm not sure if it was there from when the front seal blew out or not. It's probably due for new mounts, anyway so I'll probably make it a winter project.

Drove around to checkpoints and picked up trash with some 'Gambler 500 Rally' friends.

I have a 2001S in Rainforest Green Metallic that I bought in 2012. 14 months after I ordered it, I took delivery on October 18 of a companion Forest Green Metallic 2022 718S. Closest I could get to Packers Green and Gold. 16 miles on the odometer.

I spent seven hours driving twisties, going to a micro-distillery and stocking premium beer in Southwestern WI. Top-down the entire time.

The 01 is awesome. The 2022 is awesomer. Almost awesome*2.

I washed and waxed mine. That rarely ever happens so it's reason enough to document the moment :D

Beautiful car. I see you ordered with the MDD (millennial deterrent device) option. Nicely done!

MDD = LOL

Except for my millennial daughter. I taught her to drive on manual, and she has only owned cars with manual. But now she lives in Indianapolis, so she'll have to wait until warm weather and visit me to drive it.

They looked as good as the 2001 on Sunday. Hoping they get to the 2022 level for the rest of the year.

Hasdrubal 11-18-2022 01:02 AM

Think I got the doors sealed against leaks, replaced the missing left side membrane and put new butyl tape on the right side. New door speakers also, Infinity coax to go with a new Sony AX7000 head unit.

Head unit sounds pretty good, lots of power even without an amp, but the screen is definitely not up to modern standards. Not a very sharp image.

BruceH 11-18-2022 07:12 AM

Thanks for the note about the Sony image. I need to find a good double-DIN HU.

FWIW, I installed a Sony XAV AX1000 mainly because it had a volume knob and a front USB port. I've been happy with it. Love being able to easily change volume with the knob vs hard to find or non-existent buttons. I can't really comment on the screen image as I likely have low standards lol!

BruceH 11-18-2022 09:50 AM

Thanks for that, I am looking for a good unit with a volume knob like that one. It looks like it is discontinued at Crutchfield. I keep coming back to the Porsche Classic radio because of the physical buttons and knobs but the price
