Cold start
First time I had to fire the boxster in 15 degree weather. It was sleeping nicely in winter storage. I built a new 40x56 pole barn last summer to replace the 32x44 I'm selling in the spring. So around Thanksgiving I rolled the Boxster in the big door and under the fifth wheel camper. I never use that door, keep the tractor and other stuff in the other big door. Well there was a bunch of snow building up in front of the unused door. I thought I'd just run it up a couple feet and get all the snow out from there in case I ever need to get in there for some reason. Well the door was frozen to the ground. The motor pulled one side up the other got stuck. The cable jumped off the drum. Not knowing this I ran it up the rest of the way then the cable jumped off the other side and the door fell a foot or so and messed up the bracket. Stuck about half way up. The Boxster was in the way under the door. I decided to move it to the other side. It cranked over slowly and was not happy about the situation. She did fire and I moved it over to the other side. I ended up supporting the door with the tractor forks unhooked the cables and slowly lowered it back to the ground. I'm going to let the pro's take it from here. Once its back working I'll move the Boxster back over to the space under the fifth wheel. It came very close to crashing down on the Boxster and the fifth wheel. Imagine making that call to the insurance guy. Boxster totaled, fifth wheel 10k, garage door another 5k. It took 6 months to get the dang things.

Really just posting because the forum is so quiet....
I replaced front shocks on my 996 cab yesterday (kind of Boxster content). I went with Bilstein B4 (OEM) as my shocks were 100% shot and I really have no need for firmer ride. The job is really pretty easy and mosts items have been covered on numerous DYI threads but I'll add just a couple of FYI's. 1. Remove brake caliper. I could get my old strut out without removing the caliper but found I was really stressing the brake line when I tried to install new strut. 2. I did not have to loosen lower control arm on either side to get enough clearance to R/R struts. 3. I had a spring compressor and used it on the first strut but didn't feel like there was much tension on the spring. On the second strut, I didn't use the compressor and had no issues. Not saying don't use the compressor but at least on our cars, its not very scary for the DYI mechanic. 4. Add some tape to your fender for paint protection just in case. Luckily I didn't have a problem but can certainly see how easy it'd be to create a boo-boo. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1643580161.jpg |

After much debating whether it was worth the $, I broke down and put a proper horn button on my steering wheel. It's subtle but I think it looks nice. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0e4f2d83ca.jpg

Finally put some tires on my GA3Rs that have been sitting and installed on my car!
Now to install my lowering springs but waiting for a deal on some Bilstein B8's http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1645603450.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1645603480.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1645603505.jpg |
Bought a Soul Exhaust and H&R Springs, can't wait to do the install!!!

Well I didn't do anything with my Boxster today, but I did consult the calendar and discovered that I'm scheduled to remove my Boxster in exactly 34 more days!!!
It's in a dedicated storage facility and I am given an appointment for the day it goes in and out of storage. It would be great if it is a "top down" day, but not very likely here in NW Indiana. Larry (the Bald Eagle) |
Drove it, got a CEL lol! Need to charge up the old laptop and see what Mr Durametric says. I'm guessing something that points to MAF, vacuum leak, or O2 sensors.

I think the black vents look good, but also make your car look kind of busy with the silver/gun metal wheels and blue top.

I wanted a little splash of color to breakup all the silver and black. I tried red vent trims, but felt they were a bit too much. I decided to stick with the original silver trims, but with red slats inside the vent.
Anyone want to buy a set of red vent trims?http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1646337873.jpg |

I drove over a rock and learned that a cracked sump plate will hold oil until the engine is shut off.
