Lake Erie Circle Tour

We did the Lake Erie Circle Tour over the weekend. We started in Cleveland and drove to Dearborn Michigan the first day. We crossed through Ontario to Buffalo, NY on Saturday and returned home on Sunday. It was a little less than 800 miles with the top down most of the way to take advantage of the cool and clear weather. The Boxster ran well and we saw some beautiful scenery. The Ontario section is very very rural compared to the US side of the lake.

took the fr anti-roll bar out and installed the new ROW M030 replacement so I could install the rest of the suspension. Got one side in . Finished for the day and was reading the torque values for tomorrow's final tightening and then noticed the picture was different -- I installed the bar backwards! Oh well, tomorrows another day.

Left Seattle area this morning. Stopped in Vancouver, WA to visit friends I haven't seen in 18 years. Arrived in Boise, ID this evening.

Best sections were the historic USH 30 in Oregon:

and I-84 in Eastern OR:

Thursday is Craters of the Moon & Grand Tetons en route to Yellowstone.

Devil's Tower will be part of the leg from Cody, WY to Lead, SD.

This Memorial day weekend I refreshed my brake caliper finish, painted Lug nuts and Brake rotor hubs. I wasn't ready to repaint and decal so I short cut by scraping off peeling clear coat, scrubbing calipers with soap and polishing pad. Looked way better just doing that. With the Clear coat, I am very happy with the finished product. Way better then the peeling faded calipers before. I also took time to paint the Rotor hubs and lug nuts.
I'm going to have to repaint in a year or so. That's when I'll add SS lines and do a brake overhaul
Down side, didn't get to drive much over memorial day weekend, especially when I see the drives other took

Today I fixed my passenger side door lock mechanism. It was behaving erratically sometimes no longer dropping the window to clear the rain gutters.

Did some snooping around on the Internet and found a fix that involves re-soldering the pcb inside the door lock mechanism. Not terribly difficult but ask me how many times I put things back together the wrong way...

After that, we went out for a nice long drive to celebrate.

Picked up my 01S from Wheel Techniques in Santa Clara, CA. The shop refinished all four of my 18" rims. They look great.

The rims needed work because a different tire shop damaged all four rims when I had Bridgestone 760s fitted a couple of weeks ago.

2 questions if you don't mind: how much is wheel refinishing these days if you can share? And how do you like the 760's?

In the past week -

Returned sidemarkers to the original orange, picked up mint on the auction site. I may have a set of clear (smoke actually) side markers for sale soon. I am now leaning towards replacing my clear taillights with original orange/red if I can find a mint set at a good price. Finally couldn't stand having only the orange headlights and the cost to upgrade to clear headlights is steep. Best to return the car to stock as it was designed (2000 base).

Replaced gas cap and now have a leash!

Took a fabulous midweek run on Glendora Mountain Road. Passed only a few cyclists and maybe three cars. The Boxster is a very fun car to drive if you didn't already know.

To do - install purchased Focal speakers in the dash.

The shop charged $175 per rim to refinish. two rims were slightly out of round and the shop charged another $30 per rim to straighten them.

I like the 760s. To me, they are quiet, comfortable and last about 30K miles. And the 760s are relatively cheap - $750 installed for four. They meet mind need for a good around the town tire.

Well, it was actually yesterday, but I took the Boxster down to the Automotorplex southwest of Minneapolis for Cars and Coffee. There was a great turn out, had to be 4-500 cars. Mine's the Boxster on the right.

Put the new black zunsport grills on the front of my 02 S, replaced the engine air filter, and went out for a drive around town.

sanded 2 wheels - 220, 400, 600 in prep for re- clearcoating of lips due to oxidation damage. Sprayed Wurths silver wheel paint to touch up a wheel center and found the match was very good to the original.

Changed the oil last night, and next weekend I'll repair the back edge of the top (as it's pulling off of the bottom bow).

Drove to Houston and back(in the truck)(600 miles round trip) to pick up some BBS Sport Classic II's that I got off of eBay. Now to find some spacers for the rears, offsets are 65 with 10 x 18's.

150 mile drive out to East Texas, bounced along some dirt roads , got back on the tarmac and let her stretch her legs into triple digits on the way home.

Hosed and washed her down, then took the missus to a premier Dallas steakhouse for our anniversary dinner.

She's now resting comfortably in the garage. The Boxster, not the wife
