I filed the opening in the 2DIN stereo frame to fit the Android head unit I installed before winter. Looks a lot better now. Didn't take any pictures, though...

I backed into a tree
Just wanted to share my little mishap with you all.
I’ve been sort of laid up on and off the net so to speak since February. My 99 Boxster has over 312,000 miles and I think one or more of my spark plug tubes maybe leaking. I have the replacement tubes with seals. I just haven’t had time to replace the bad tubes yet. I went home to check my mail and up date my yard work to do list. Well as I was leaving, the car stalled and I backed into a tree. I now need a passenger side tail light assembly and a new rear bumper. I just ordered a tail light from Kirby in Tyler, Texas. So I should be legal again within a week. I will go to Woody for a bumper and (I cannot believe I am saying this), but I will go get a super cheap paint job via MACCO. My next objective is 400,000 miles! MNC-I |
I mounted the freshly painted summer wheels, and went for a drive. Here's a teaser of my battle scarred front bumper, rally lights and wheels. Head over to Show and Tell for the bigger picture (pun intended)

Deleted my headlight washers. Never really thought they looked that good poking out of there. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1524077628.jpg

If you don't mind waiting a couple weeks for delivery, they are on Ebay. New Magneti Marelli both sides for under $60. shipped from Latvia. Good price I thought. |
The weather has finally turned to spring up here and I got my baby back on the road. This is the latest in April that I have brought it out from its deep sleep. It was like winter would never end. Car is running very well, only the slightest puff of blue on start up. Looking forward to the next 6 months or so of permasmile.

Installed a 997 shifter. I also used the 997 shift adjustment tool. My black cable was dead on, but the blue cable was off 4 notches.

Bit of an ongoing project but made a significant step forward today.
Got the cats out, the nuts were rusted to bits and starting to blow on right side. A complete nightmare of a job but possible without removing the rear bumper and box or muffler in US speak. Don’t know if I will bother replacing the main heat shields as they are shot, the others I’ll get tack welded to stop the rattles. New sensors to fit also. Next job is to press out the studs and get out the old sensors - that should be fun!! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...33fac09de8.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...41accc99f1.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...aee4ab4f7b.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9ec26b97ae.jpg A pic of what was holding them in for ref. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f4e8465f34.jpg The set up for the job https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...88ec2df109.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
Changed the filter and transmission fluid in the Tiptronic. No shifting issues prior to the change, but the car just turned over 99,000. miles and a change was due. The old filter I removed had a production date of 1999 on it and the car is a 1998. So I assume the filter was changed at some point previously. I'm going to do the fuel filter next, ran out of time this weekend.

Got CEL P1276 and P0153 errors this week, ordered the pre O2 sensors based on the error codes. Got them Friday and just put them in this morning. Afterwards, took it out for breakfast with the wife with the top down, and ran around town today. It ran great and I missed driving her around while waiting for the O2 sensors, since I didnt want to take a chance damaging the cat’s with the codes.

http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1524495188.jpg They should be either about 65 mm or else around 74 mm. Doing some R&D research. Thanks - DM |

It’s a made in China one so probably someone doing them that side of the pond. I think I found the OEM so will have a look again and send you the info. Maybe you can ask them if they have someone in the US. I looked at a few and like this one as it had heavier side members and was open at rear and front for Center access. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1693bcffcb.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

One final (easy) question: Do your exhaust manifolds have the built-in catalytic convertors, or are they the non-cat 3-tubes-into-1 version? Thanks, with apologies for the slight thread detour - DM |
