*********** Is that a 550 SE? Those look like 18” Carrera lights painted in the Seal Gray over Arctic Silver. If so, what is the production number on the batwing? |
Monday 1/15, still no car. It was supposed to be picked up by Friday and delivered over the weekend. I'm calling Copart this morning to see what the delay is.
All three of us posted at the same minute... funny. Quote:

I spontaneously disassembled part of the interior in a parking lot!
The inertia lock on my seat belt got stuck and I didn't want to drive home without a seat belt. It is only one screw to remove the panel over the seatbelt, but getting it on and off with the carpet still installed over the engine was a pain. Took about 1 second to fix the seat belt, and 30 minutes to get the panel on and off. |
Went for a 3 hour drive.
After a month of sitting in my garage in single digit temps, she started right up. it was 20 degrees but at least all the salt had been washed away. Shifting was good with out any difficulty. My trans fluid change last spring paid off. Flat spotting on my summer tires rolled out after about 10 miles. All was good 16 years old, a nudge under 100k miles and she just goes. Only sad part was pulling her into the garage and shutting her down. Appreciate the small things |
After being below 0 for most of the month, it hit 50 degrees today. So, I drove around aimlessly with the top down all afternoon. It was glorious.

Spent another hour trying to get the ignition key cylinder back into place.
I replaced the ignition switch and mistakenly thought I had to remove the cylinder :roll eyes: The internet said it was easy :barf: I have a feeling that I will eventually give up and tow the damn thing to a shop  |
iPhone integration method
I have been using the Proclip iPhone mounts in my cars for years. They are designed specifically for each model year for most cars. Once in place, they stay in place and setting the phone in, is easy with one hand. But the Proclip mount options for a 986 and I think all Boxsters, were clumsy. So I bought a Din cover from eBay and attached the mount to it. I swapped out the silly CD holder. Now I have access to Siri with a push of a button. Hands free phone, texting, turn by turn directions and my iPhone music. All the while, the iPhone is on the charger.
About the Continental radio which I found in the Forum. It is inexpensive and a pretty cheap radio. Had issues with radio frequency interference when on weak FM stations. It was from my iPhone charger. One that worked fine with all my OEM car radios. Replaced the charger with a more expensive one and the interference is now gone. Another note about this Continental radio; when on the freeway with the top down, the built it phone mic in the radio works surprisingly well. Was able to carry on a conversation at freeway speed. Did not expect that.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02/box1516740144.jpg |
Finished going back to my stockish colored wheels and emblem.

Looks perfect! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Finished up my mechanical winter project list yesterday afternoon:
- GBox 2nd gear detent - front and rear Zimmerman Z rotors with Akebono PC pads - TechnoBrace - Genuine Porsche .01 AOS - replaced BMC oiled air filter with stock Mahl paper filter Due to winter weather haven’t had a chance to take the car out yet. May have a bad replacement AOS, vacuum readings did not change from old unit. Waiting on a Fieldpiece manometer to replace my cheap meter before making a final judgement. Pertinent points will be posted today in respective detail threads. Shoutout to my new 45,000 btu Modine Hotdawg heater w/sealed fresh air combustion chamber & intake which allows me to work through the winter in comfort and safety  https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4cd39cc1aa.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Oldcarguy,
I installed a Technobrace last year and like it a lot. The back end of the car feels more planted when driving, um, spiritedly. |

Replaced spark plugs, spark plug tubes, and coil packs with updated version. I can tell you the bolt and washer method for removing the spark plug tubes is 1000x easier than the transom plug method. The transom plug makes a nice installation tool though.

Old Car Guy, I will await the results of your upgrades. I installed Akebono pads on my Audi and was not impressed, though they are less dusty and wheels are cleaner longer most importantly they work but don't have the bite that factory Audi pads have.

What did you do with/to your Boxster today?
FINALLY, finished wiring up my rear deck speakers to the factory radio.
Very pleased with the end result, sounds night and day better and surprisingly loud for such a small amount of power. Now back to the cosmetic stuff. |
