I constantly make long trips in my '99. I've added 14K miles to the odometer over the past year. Never worried about a breakdown; I consider it very reliable. Sure, there have been a few problems, but nothing that ever left me stranded or did catastrophic damage. I would confortably drive it cross country without fear of mechanical failures.

aside from the water pump (and even that, really) does not leave you stranded on the side of the road. nothing on the list is something that other vehicles would not encounter, possibly 2000 miles from home or pulling out of the garage.

I've actually found the car to be quite reliable. Nothing I've done on the car has been that hard, with the exception of helicoiling an IMS bolt-hole, but that was the fault of a crappy bolt that snapped while torqueing. What tends to run-up the repair bills is the outrageous labor rates "euro" shops charge for routine work. I DIY and shop around for parts if at all possible.

Just made a 1,100 mile trip to Reno and back last weekend. My 01 has 108,000 miles on it and it never even hiccuped . About 900 miles with the top down. I love this car.

Bought my 99 with mid-60s mileage in Pennsylvania back in Feb or so, drove it 1400 miles home. Took it on an 800 mile road trip in April.

I take my AAA card, iPhone and change of underwear.

Got to get her to pack lighter! Mine likes to take everything with her too but she knows with the Boxster that she can't. Just did 800 miles last weekend! What a fun ride!

I just ran mine over 2000 miles through Colorado, I'd say road trip Jägerstyle. If you want a garage queen then get your wax on.
