Aftermarket windshield replacement

Anyone had their windshield replaced with an aftermarket glass?

The windshield on the car has permanent windshield wiper scratches into the glass and bugs me to know end.
Window cleaner makes the scratches more visible, while car quick detailer helps hide the scratches somewhat.

My searches found some used windshields for sale, but don't want to buy into other glass problems.
I never seen a windshield with embedded scratches like this from the wipers.. It's like fine diamonds cut into the glass with the wipers on..

Anyway, if anyone has replaced theirs I would be interested in your comments.

thanks
T

I have had mine replaced last year. The company did a fantastic job. The had the car all day as they only had one guy that was able to replace windshields on a Porsche. It looks amazing!

There are a lot of companies that will polish out the scratches on the windshield, or you can go the DIY method below. If not chips or cracks I would just have polished out than replace, lot's cheaper as most replaced windshields are around $400.00.

Thanks for that info, the whole windshield is that way on each side..
$400 doesn't sound too bad compared to the work required polishing..

Check your insurance, mine repaired a crack and scratch on my car (not Boxster) with no deductable or points against policy as it was considered a safety / preventive thing.

good luck

All day? Are you sure it wasn't *these* guys that worked on it?

Mine isn't scratched or cracked so insurance won't replace it, but it is pretty sand-blasted. Not too noticeable unless you happen to be driving into the sun. I was quoted $1200 to replace it, so I've taken to driving around behind big gravel trucks. it's only a matter of time before I can make a claim. I can likely get the hood repainter as part of the same claim.

if you want to get your insurance to pay for a new one, you guys should come and drive about in the UK for a bit.. i've done oh, maybe 5,000 miles in the boxster per year for the past 2 years.. 4 new windscreens (sorry windshields) in that time

it is part of the insurance here in the UK on most policies, about $100 deductible insurance company picks up the rest and it doesnt affect your claims history.

nb: when i had mine last time i had the black edging instead of the standard boxster s 'chrome effect' as it just fades peels and looks crappy after a while a dark colour like lapis blue, i personally think it looks a bit better as its the only 'chome effect' on the cars
