Next Porsche

I love my 2.7 Green and Tan Boxster. But I have the multiple Porsche itch, and I think a 911 is the only thing that will scratch it. Question is, I want to spend up to or about 40K, but the options are TOO plentiful:
-poss abused 997 C2S
-plain jane hq 997
-lovingly run 996 C4S
-any other 996

I've used my "nok cha" (green tea/car) as a DD as much as possible but with Monterey and maybe Florida on the horizons, I might not NEED another cabrio but I'm not a coupe guy, does that even make sense to lust after a 911 w/o loving coupes? I want the extra in cab room so 2+2 makes sense, thus 987/981 are out. I don't want a FR I'm ready for RR, grr.

The 2.7 is great to give a workout and fast-ish to enjoy, but the need for speed is there.

Any thoughts on specific 911/experiences?

Hands down, get a 997 C2 S, best for the money. A 997 C2 is sweet enough. I've had a 996 and got my 997, now Boxster. Love the 997, absolutely the best car I've own so far. Second is my 88 Ferrari 3.2 which is a classic and head turner. Lets just say the 997 is perfect with great looks and reliability. The 996 was always in the shop. I don't think you will regret the 997 and it holds its value way better than a 996. Use it as a DD no problem. Here is my coupe, all upgrades done by me. GT2 rear wing, LEDs, grille, fabricated roof scoop.

cheers

Haha

Air scoop on the top? Sweet ride!

Reliability is definitely tops, good to know although I'd heard the 3.8 was less reliable than the 3.4.

I gave a 3.8 a test drive and accidentally started in 3rd, nearly died once when I did that in the Box!

What Box are you running?

The 996's are nice (which I own) but a 997 is better. Much better. In the long run, the 997 might rival the 993 in terms of Porsche "perfectness" (but they sold so many they will never be as collectable as a 993).

Thanks, I just picked up a sweet 01 base model 2.7 that was loaded with only 35k miles, wanted to turn it into a project car based on the 2010 911 sport classic.
It turned out pretty sweet and will make me some money if I decide to sell.

Best on your search for the 911 ! They are iconic and great great cars!
