Glove Box for 2.5 '99

So it's not a big deal storing my registration and insurance in that little compartment behind me. It is a big deal, however, getting stuff in and out of that compartment regularly.

Has anyone documented or tried retro-fitting a glove box to one of the older Boxsters?

I believe you're truly talking replacing most of, if not the entire, dashboard assembly with one from a younger 986 that had a glovebox.

Doesn't your paperwork fit in the (literal) glove box that sits right next to you in the center console between the seats?

The only reason I don't put my stuff in there is the previous owner broke the hinge so it isn't really secure anymore.

I'm sure people have done what you're thinking of, though I don't know that it's documented anywhere on here. As I said, though, the dash area is essentially one good size piece plus the small hood over the gauges, so you'd have to replace that entire section of the car with one that has the golvebox.

It is my understanding that there is a large metal bar on the older Boxsters where the glove box is on the new Boxsters. I would like a glove box too, but I don't believe it is achievable without major surgery. I could be wrong though.

Yea, I did more research and that the entire dash needed to be removed in order to add the glove :'(

I keep my papers with the manual in that holder under the steering wheel. Out of the way and easy to get to.

I have no such holder (thankfully) to bash my knees into on my '97. But that is admittedly a good spot for all those things.

I have short stumpy little legs - my knees don't come anywhere near it.
