What I did was to trim most of the paper backing off the bottom of the decal. Then, I used sissors to cut each letter from the top of the sticker down to about a quarter of an inch from the bottom (I didn't cut them all apart, I just cut the top into many squares attached at the bottom so I could curve the whole thing as I taped it down).

Then I measured carefully, taped the top of the backing for each letter in place, as well as the bottom and then pulled the backing off each letter at a time to lay it down.

I think it turned out great, but it was a real white knuckle affair. Wish I'd have known about the soapy water! That wasn't in the instructions at all!
