P0102 - mass or volume air flow circuit low input, 99 Boxster
Hi, Can someone tell me what is mass or volume air flow circuit low input mean or what to look for, car is 99 Boxster TipTronics, Thank You.
|
That is the name of a P0102 engine code.
That means that the engine computer (ECU) detects that there is a problem with the Mass Air Flow sensor or MAF. Specifically, it means that the voltage coming from the MAF to the ECU is too low. Usually the first thing to do is to clean the MAF. |
Thanks for the reply, I had the code for a while (year or so), I replaced the MAF a year ago, i had no codes for a week then back again, I also replaced Air/Oil separator, Oil fill tube and oil stick tube. i just cant get rid of this code, I had a 02 sensor Bank2 code, ordered the 02 sensor and got it today but check the code and was P0102, when i clear the code it comes back on after 2 or 3 miles of driving.

The service info for P0102 talks about a wiring break - short to ground. BTW, P0101 is for a faulty MAF sensor, and P0103 is a wiring short to battery voltage.
As the OP mentioned, you have have the codes read so you know what you're dealing with. Regards, paul... |
It's been my experience that P0102 generally means that the MAF sensor has failed. Unless one can find an actual "break" in the wiring that would cause a low voltage reading - the sensor needs to be replaced . With that said, a person has three options with regard to replacing the sensor:
1. Purchase an oem sensor directly from a dealership - $600-$700 2. Get the equivalent Bosch replacement part - $250-$300 3. Source an aftermarket "knock-off" that is well made - $89-$125 . |
P0120 appeared about six months ago. Cleaned air filter, tightened all intake connections, pulled MAF and used CRC MAF cleaner. Worked well for about 600 miles.
Repeated cleaning a couple of times as CEL/code came back couple of times. Purchased new non OEM MAF from link provided by Johnny Danger. No codes to date and no CEL Also remedied a hesitation I had between 3500 and 5000 rpm. |
