need to buy a spare key for my 2001 boxster S

I bought the 986 S recently without a spare key (the owner lost it).
And now i wanna buy a spare key before something will happen...

also the master key don't really work good (i mean the remote doesn't work every time, and it isn't the battery, i replaced it , twice)

because of that i was thinking maybe to buy a master key and make the old one as a spare key... ?

can someone give me some advices?
is someone know how much it should cost me?

Thanks
Eli

I bought 2 transponders off of eBay. $133.00 each + shipping (must be genuine Porsche with code)

Porsche Genuine 996 Targa key remote Boxster 01-04 | eBay

1 Blade $33

Porsche Genuine key blank for 996 986 Boxster Carrera | eBay

The stealership charged me $140 to program both keys (same price for 1 as it was for 2) and $40 to cut one blade (I took the other out of my old key).

Ended up costing me about $470 for 2 keys...which is still robbery!

So first my boxster is 2001,
and i don't live in the US,

I thought maybe to buy a key from the US and sync it here in a local dealership,
because they charge you 350$ for a key than another 200$ for sync and cutting the blade!!
so i cant avoid the 200$ but maybe i can buy the key for less from ebay or something....

thank you shadrach74 for the links ... i checked it ... it will cost me 160$ +-
then i can save 200$ +-

but before i buy it , there is something i need to check before ??
i know there was car keys with 1,2 or 3 buttons... is there more difference that i don't know about?
or it 100% fit to my car?

and is it open also the two trunks?

thanks you all!
Eli

My S is an 02 and I bought the 3 button. As long as you have electronic trunk release buttons and not the earlier style mechanical levers they should be able to program the 3 button. My car originally came with a 2 button. Also check the key you're currently using the transmitter frequency should be written in small print on the plastic housing; it should be 315Mhz.

The key for my 02 S reads as follows:

Delphi TXF315P3
CAN 3659104467
LTQTXF315P3
FM - 315 MHz

You might call the dealer and tell them you have a key with those numbers and ask them if it will work.

From what I'm reading it looks like you have a different PN# (and FM freq) than I do. That does not mean it's the right PN#. It's possible taht the guts were switched out. Ask your dealer what you need and verify with the seller before you buy.
