My friend bought a can of tail light spray paint and did his tail lights with it. After seeing the results I had to give it a go and so my friend painted my tail lights and they came out like this.

I think it came out fantastic and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get rid of the orange.

I am guessing you ironed out a couple of problems with the paint before reinstalling?

Nice job and a tad be less expensive then buying new. Always love to see innovative ideas people come up with rather then just laying down plastic and buying.

I did a set of taillights on my old 300zx red before also. Just a can of the "transparent red" that you can find in any modeling store will do it.

Great job, I've seen similar things in the past, but this looks like a quality job! Any side affects, do you think it will last?

How do they look with the lights on? Do they then look orange-ish?

the lights look great when the blinkers are on they flash a little orange which is actually real nice, and they look red with all the lights on except the blinkers. I will post those pics if they look good. And as for how long it will last it should last a long time as long as i don't use any type of paint remover on the lens.No side affects yet. Maybe a little ruff to the touch depending on how good you are at spraying. Nothing that a little buff wont remove.

Nice. I wonder if this would "freshen" up the 3rd brake light as well. Mine is looking old after all these years.

Use the same plastic polish that you use on the rear window to bring the third stoplight back to shiny. That's what I did.

I have a glass rear window as I replaced my top 2 years back. What do you use on your plastic rear window? Thanks

The Novus 3 step plastic polish would do the trick. NOVUS Plastic Polish

Or use one of those headlight buffing kits.

Has anyone smoked the amber sections of their headlights with tint spray? I have the spray and clear lacquer (for shiny finish) ready to go. Just wonderd if I needed to sand or heat the surface first so that the spray will take better?

Any thoughts?

Not to point out the obvious, but why not spray the entire lens except the backup lamp? So it would all be the same shade of red?

To get the same shade of red you have to spray the orange first, then attempt to match the bottom to the top. If you spray the whole thing you are still going to get that two tone look just that worse because it is going to look like you over sprayed instead of a nice define color difference. The reason for this is because you have to let the orange part dry to see how red it actually got. But any way I like that darker shade on the top it look good but it goes unnoticed most of the time, because it looks natural, in person.

With that said you can try to spray the whole thing and see what happens, but I do not recommend it at all.

On another note the color is holding up very good. It has rained pretty hard and I washed the lights to see if there was any fade and there wasn't.
