Parking Brake Light on Dash

We'll it's been a couple of weeks so it's time to ask another head scratching question.

When I turn the ignition key on, all the dash warning lights turn on including "park." When I start the car, all the dash light turn off normally.

So here's the question. When I pull up on the parking brake handle, the park light doesn't come on in the dash. I would have thought the parking brake switch had failed, but the convertible top works normally. This tells me the parking brake switch is working. Or at least part of it is.

Anybody want to hazard a guess as to why the park light doesn't come on when the parking brake lever is pulled up
