Pics of Boxsters with Aftermarket Side Skirts

Hi all-

I'm looking to install a set of side skirts on a 986. But don't know what's available out there. I'm looking for something that's simple and tasteful. If you have any pics of boxsters with side skirts, please share them. Thanks in advance.

JAAY 05-07-2012 01:15 PM

These are the aero kit 1 skirts also have the bumper and wing.

I have a pair of side skirts i believe they are the aero II that I took off my blue 2003 boxster. I'd be willing to let it go for cheap if interested. PM me if so.

3point2 05-07-2012 01:25 PM

JAAY: Nice setup! Those skirts are simple and work with the stock look of the car very nicely! Do you have any more pictures from the front so I can see the bumper? Any recommendations online on where to pick up these skirts? Thanks. Lovin' the 19s too!

CVstar: Do you have pictures of your skirts? Yes, please PM a price. Thank you!

Wingnut: Nice car! The skirts look nice but I don't like how they arch up towards the rear. Do you have more pics of the RUF bumper? Nice job!

I'm starting to think Jonny's car is a cardboard cutout, you only ever see the same angle same pic.

I personally like the arch, but they are not for everybody, and actually they look better in person than they do in pictures.

Here is another shot of the RUF bumper

These are not aftermarket, but here are my Aerokit 1s...

Wow! Lots of nicely modded Boxsters here! I'm hoping this doesn't get me caught up in the mod bug again.

Johnny: Very tastefully modded Boxster! The Hamann kit is very simple yet unique. I like the integrated side markers in the front bumper. That kit must of cost a pretty penny? Also, beautiful job on the wheels and tire. They fit the car perfectly? What are the sizes of the wheels and tires? Did you use spacers?

Wingnut: Thanks for the front bumper pic. Looks good! The Techart sides from that angle actually look pretty good. I was looking for something that looked more OE but helps make the car look lower from the side. This may be an option. Do you recommend a place online for these skirts? Thanks.

Boxtaboy: I actually like the simplicity of the aero 1 kit. A closer look at the pictures and the skirt doesn't actually cover the stock side skirt line which makes it mOREe look like an add-on. Do you think there is a way to cover the OE line with this skirt?

Wingnut2u 05-08-2012 12:23 AM

The TA sideskirts are stupidly expensive and are a very rare find these days. I would check out GT3tek Boxster Body Parts - 986 Spyder Look, Boxster Rear Diffuser, Side Rocker, Body Kit they might have something you would like.

I bought their side skirts for my 997 and the fit and finish was very nice and the price was very reasonable for PU (not fiberglass)

I'm not sure if it's just the way they designed them to fit, as here's another one with Aero 1 skirts that are under the line. I could prob adjust them up, but honestly don't care, as they look fine to me...

I like the factory skirts cause they are polyeurethane and not fiberglass.

Here is the OEM AerokitII front bumper and side skirts. I found them on Ebay over the years. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1336485254.jpg

I decided to go with the GT3 MK2 (02-04) skirting instead of the GT3 MK1 (99-01) that is normally sold with the Boxster aero kit. That unfortunately meant I had to go aftermarket fiberglass but they've held up pretty well. Skirting on a Boxster is actually longer than on a GT3 or regular Carrera. I think I paid $350 for the skirting on what used to precisionporsche.com. One arrived about 1/8" longer than the other so there's a little gap. Didn't feel like going through the hassle of re-shipping fiberglass so let it slide.

The front bumper is factory GT3 MK1 since it will only work with the fried egg headlights. I think The two different styles blend well together though.

Those Techarts art growing on me. I checked prices online and wow :(. Are there replicas available anywhere?

Any good websites for the aero kit 1s?

Johnny: The wheel fitment is perfect! Awesome job! Are low +30 offset ranges going to give that look? Any issues with rubbing?

The offsets are +31 all around, with no rubbing issues .

There are several aftermarket knock-offs of the Techart side skirts available . Here's one :

SF-Rockster 08-15-2012 09:48 AM

I Found some
Techart sides don't know if they will fit.
The # 096.100.380.100
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I've done a search but could not find anything.
Thank you. They ate for a great deal but I want to make sure they fit first.

jrblackman 08-15-2012 09:56 AM

Pleasantly Surprised

I clicked on this thread thinking I was going to dislike most of what I saw but my reaction was just the opposite. I like most of the changes with few exceptions. JAAY your car looks fantastic. One question for those of you adding wings. I assume you disable the stock spoiler so it no longer raises, correct?

That looks awesome, nice work.

Do you have a link to the item ?

SF-Rockster 08-15-2012 03:54 PM

No link. I bought them already. From Craig's list.
For a great price. I tried to fit them but looks to be a little short like .5 inch short.
I'll take pics once I get home from work.

It's more than likely because they were designed for a carrera . Most boxster owners don't realize this, but even though certain model boxsters and carreras shared some of the same body parts, the side skirts for a boxster are actually slightly longer than those of the carrera .

SF-Rockster 08-15-2012 04:46 PM

So no way of fitting them? :(

Assuming that I'm correct, technically no . But, if the skirts are made out of FRP (which I'm certain they are), a shop that has a lot of experience working with fiberglass could easily add material and shape them to fit accordingly. I would recommend looking for a shop that caters to the "fast and furious" JDM crowd . Those guys can make anything from a complex body kit to a custom audio installment out of nothing . And, I bet you could get them to re-work your skirts for reasonable money.

SF-Rockster 08-15-2012 05:25 PM

Haha. It looks like they will fit if I remove the little
Mud flap in the rear. If not I'll try and sell them and get ones that fit. Haha. Thanks JD for the help.

The flaps are suppose to come off any way .

SF-Rockster 08-16-2012 02:15 AM

Thanks jd. I'm going to try to install when I get some time off work.
I'll post some pictures of the install. Or not. Haha. And if anyone knows somebody looking for some side skirts for a 996. I might have some.
