Soap and water, carwash with wax. Then just wax then every time you wax the car.

+1 P21S works great! Its the only thing that will clean my track wheelset of all of the grease and rubber.

p21s is completely paint safe but a little pricey for regular use.

I'm using an OTC wheel cleaner sold by Armor All at Autozone. With a Meguair's Gold Class wheel face brush it makes quick work of anything regular car wash soap doesn't get out.

Simple Green, it's cut through brake dust for decades for me.

Wax.....Mothers...California Gold.

Everyone has their favorite wax. I've tried too many to count.

But my "go-to" from a cost and performance standpoint is 3M Perfect-It Show Car Paste Wax. $18 a can and gives as close to a wet look as I could find and it goes on/off incredibly easy. It's the best I've found in combining a Carnuba-look gloss with the durability of a polymer-based product.

3M Perfect It Show Car Paste Wax, 3m 39526, creates an ultra high gloss finish, with long-lasting protection!

Found the time to do a detail last week. Didn't quite have the energy to break out the PC to polish, but did wash, clay, then applied two coats. The finish on these guys really cleans up nicely. The results---not bad for an 11 year old car:

I can't believe it, but I got the random orbital like 5 years ago (not all that long after I got the Box) and haven't used it on this car yet. (Have used it on another.) Just didn't see the need---was seeing no swirls. Well, this year, if I looked really close in just the right light I could see a few. So...guess I'll have to give it a try (NEXT year :D).

What I used. (The pink stuff? FinishKare 425.)

I like how you laid out the products in order of use. Keepin' it simple.

Frodo 05-17-2012 03:32 PM

Thanks for the comments. I left out one thing...the quick detail bottle, used with the clay bar.

The downside to detailing? It sure don't last...

Spring's tough: you got all that pollen in the air, and dust and intermittent showers, a regular PITA.

For all you anal retentives out there, relax---I gave her a bath right after taking that photo.

This stuff is fantastic ! Just keep it away from any polished tips .

^I knew that what you're going to post before I clicked on it... :)

Johnny Danger 05-18-2012 05:25 AM

On a serious note, I used some of this wax a few years ago and loved it . I recently came across it at a local store and decided to pick up some up . I'm sure that most of the detailing snobs out there will thumb their noses at it, but the stuff works great . Easy on, easy off with no swirls marks or streaking and no dusty residue, and it leaves a great shine . I call it the "Sopranos" wax .

Whoa! The guy on the web site looks like he'll break both your knee caps if you DON'T buy his product!

Ghostrider 310 05-18-2012 05:33 AM

It's "micro brewed" , that's exactly what I've been looking for in a wax! That's a page right out of the Kodak use "Ekta" or "Koda" as a word prefix and mark it up 30%, marketing playbook.

Digressing for a moment, don't ask me why ? but this tune has Ghostrider written all over it . Maybe it's the thought of you having a bikini top . :)

Have not read one thread about top mechanism issues with the Bikini top. Furthermore, replacement would be a joke at any boat canvass shop or with the factory pieces and since the rear window is never under stretched stress it will last ions longer than the original plastic designs. Frankly, just like the rest of the car the bikini top is misunderstood by non enthusiasts.

I joke ! I wish the Dangermobile had a bikini top . What about the music ??

Ghostrider 310 05-18-2012 05:58 AM

Check it out the bikini top stored is never exposed to light either, in the last two years of 986 operation I never put the top up, just used the cover in the garage. As for the tunes I know you, they have to be a huge nut bust at my expense but ok I'll go listen.

edit OK I'm back, that tune was in rotation during the forced music years at Exxon, not my fav.... I have been listening to a lot of Government mule lately.

Hello Topless, I'm hoping you can help me. you posted and had assistance on a topic regarding error codes you were receiving on your porsche. I'am having the exact same error codes and believe they may be related to a faulty ignition switch since mine is faulty but i'm not sure. Can you please email me, letting me know what the fix was? I'd greatly appreciate it if you can tell me how you took care of the issue. I'am not sure exactly how the forums work so i can provide you with my user name, which is laurenlolo and can be emailed at gabee@comcast.net here's the link. Thank you! http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/29643-cel-codes-print.html
