center console lock cylinder

Although the center console lock seems to do what it is supposed to do, the cylinder itself pulls right out of its socket if you try to remove the key without holding the cylinder in. What should be keeping it attached?

This is a '99, but it should be similar. It appears that the lock cylinder is held into the lock mechanism bracket via a sleeve that fits over the cylinder and has a larger flange on the bottom that keeps it in. My guess is that the sleeve has come off or broken a snap and is now lying in the cavity under the center console. You can access this area fairly easily by removing the ashtray and surround.

This is the best I could do without removing the entire console...hope it helps!

Good luck!

That's a big help. I'll open it up and look around. I appreciate the detailed photos!
