K & N

Just purchased a K&N filter for my box s and wanted to know what the latest opinion was on using them. I have read the oil can cause problems with the MAF but I believe the opinion on PCA has changed...I will be putting mine in new so it shouldn't be "over oiled"

Is the K&N's air flow similar to what you would get just by removing the foam layer on the stock filter?

Wanted to get some feedback before I install (or return)...thanks

The oil problem is just when it is over-oiled IIRC. Just make sure there's no oil on the filter that can come off and get on the MAF and I think you'll be ok. Don't expect any more HP, though. I believe that's a myth.

deliriousga is correct:

1) the oil problem is when people reoil the filter. If its a brand new one then you should be find.

2) no hp gains for boxsters

Thanks for the feedback...I was thinking the same thing in regards to oil in the filter.

I have read many posts about there being no increase in HP although it's hard to believe there isn't some if air flow is truly increased even if minimal...good thing I mostly want to do it for the sound and to put a new filter in. I like to hear as much of the motor as I can...don't even like to use the radio.

Would like to move up to the EVO intake when I have the $...seems like there is an increase with that intake especially with a chip

Wipe it down to get access residue off at initall installation. When re-oiling please allow to dry for at leat 24 hours and wipe down. Key here is oil=BAD.

I thought I would add something here that Imagine auto is doing a group buy on these right now.

I have a de-snorked 2000 S with an EVO intake fitted with the K&N. The butt dyno says it work.

K&N Installed

Well I installed the K&N filter on Sunday (I wiped it all down as suggested) and I must say there is definitely a difference.

The motor no longer seems choked at 6K and downshifts are smoother due to easier throttle blip.

I am sure it would not show much on a dyno but a definite improvement.

hmm seems risky. I just got the MAHLE airf fileter from PAP-Parts (delivered in one day). No oil required.
THose MAF are NOT CHEAP.
