Litronic Upgrade - I did it!

Just did the Litronic upgrade last night on my 01' Boxster. Got the parts from Suncoast Motor Sports in Florida - well packed and delivered on time. Lights including the new smoke corners were $1239 and of course I bought the clear side markers too ($29.95). I did the entire installation in about 2 hours and I'm not particularly gifted with a wrench (I'm a lawyer by trade if that tells you anything )

Removal of the existing lights is very thoroughly explained in the owners manual and I used the article/tutorial from that Pelican website for the new installation and everything was very easy. I highly suggest doing the wiring harness install so that the high beam rotate works - it's a lot cooler than folks described and I swear I can see a country mile with the highbeams on. There are only two wires to splice (simple - just cut with wire cutters and strip and connect with butt connectors and crimping pliers) and the third (brown wire) goes right on an existing ground post - piece of cake. Getting the lights to seat with the tool was a bit tricky until I really turned hard on the headlight tool which produced the audible click and locked the light in place - I was just a bit worried to turn it so hard at first. I didn't drill any holes - just used holes and grommets that were already there for passing all of the wire harnesses through. I get the red/white tail lights tomorrow and I'll be done with lighting upgrades! I also need to replace the rubber "nuts" that the bolts go into that hold the stereo amp in place - I was real gentle in removing the bolts and for some reason the nuts still failed. My car had the higher (15 amp) fuses already installed so I didn't need to upgrade those.

My lights appear to be very well adjusted as installed, and I'm not exactly sure how to adjust them anyway, so I'm just going to leave them for now. I highly recommend this upgrade for anyone who wants a fun project.

I got in on a Bradywine group buy for $1100, they usually list them for $1250.

nice upgrade but definitely not a must have. Wheels, rubber, skirting, GT3 seats all much more bang for the buck.

Couple questions...

My understanding with the Litronics upgrades is that:

The self-adjusting mechanism incorporates ballast placed in a remote part of the car that makes it impossible to fully retrofit, is this not the case in the 986?

I'm assuming that the headlight washing functionality that is part of the litronics in the 987 is not part of the 986 package?

You're right! They must have upped the price in the last week. When I called them, I tried to get them for $1050 since that is the price some others on here got them for about a year ago. They explained that they used to be that price, but no longer. Gaudin Porsche - www.jplv.net has them for $1200 in the Sept. issue of Excellence magazine - and I think someone else in the magazine advertised them even cheaper, but I can't find it now...

Not sure what you mean by "fully retrofit" but if you mean you don't have the auto leveling feature that the factory installed liltronics have, you are right. They still rotate up on high beam, but don't rotate up (for example) when you slam on the brakes and cause the nose to dive like the factory ones will do. I'm not sure about the washers - wouldn't want them even if I could get them, so I didn't investigate it.
