regarding the engine, i am of the understanding there were two versions; a ctr 1 and ctr 2. one had a completely built engine, but the other was built on a stock engine. this is cool, as the higher compression of a n/a engine gives you more lower rpm torque and smooths-out the lag from a big turbo(s). i think they tucked the intercoolers in the rear wheel wells like the 959. anyways, there's lots of threads on the pelican turbo forum on how to turbo a n/a aircooled engine on the cheap, so do-able.

The CTR (1) is based on the pre 964 chassis. You can visually tell by the long, floor mounted shift lever.

Deflection. That's fine with me.

ok, and makes sense as the 911 chassis is fundamentally lighter than the 964 (no transmission tunnel for the awd). that also helps with my vague remembrance that the stock engine ruf turbo'd was a 3.2, but again i was being lazy and didn't refresh my memory (uhh ... wiki is still down, right ...?). personally, i find the 964 (and ruf) body style (bumpers) 'heavy' and would rather start with a pre-89 base car. in fact, one of my dream cars is a 3.2 carrera with the wide body option, sunroof delete and turbo charger with mild boost - what a car!!!

I am with you on the pre 89.....classic Porsche lines right in the middle of old and new. Almost had one long before the box...just missed it!

Nope, wrong again, I simply don't like the car, I'd rather have the 911T back my brother owned in the seventies. However, that body style is played and again at that price you might be able to get a GT Street RS, much cooler ride IMO. Given that neither are in my shopping range it's moot, I truly would buy a Boxster and a house in Florida on the beach first...

So now we have as opportunity cost:

458
or
Scuderia
or
Condo
or
911T
or
GT Street RS (maybe this is a GT3 RS?)
or
Boxster and a house in Florida

That's not deflecting?

The Radium King 01-19-2012 01:04 PM

i'd like to add guns and canned food to that list; i'm really afraid of the pending zombie holocaust.

begs the question: how much canned food can you fit in the trunk of the Dangermobile vs a Scuderia vs a condo in Florida? Do condos have trunks?

It depends on how many bodies there are in the trunk .

You guys bored? Hey check it, I can't walk, sit or stand on my own schedule, all of you already won whatever competition you perceive we are in. As for the car, I get it, if it had a vage you would screw it, got it. After all, that would be the only way you could conclude that what I'm looking at will still trail it and since we are two people in anonymity, who effing cares anyhow?

I'm done with the subject.

I am, snowed in for 3 days. Add that with the fact that I like to argue...

Ghostrider 310 01-19-2012 04:02 PM

Apparently winter is making everyone like to argue. I'm bored with my condition, I can't understand how anyone healthy likes posting so much. I'd love to go skiing, winter hiking, snowmobiling any of that stuff.

thstone 01-19-2012 04:21 PM

I'm not bored and I'm not snowed in (it was 68F here today) and I don't particularly like to argue.

But I do like to talk about Porsche's and this one was off the chart! I can't get enough of that video. :D

Wasn't able to find it but I thought there was one of the same car running the ring with video taken from a helicopter showing some mind boggling power slides. Same car with some footage taken outside of the cockpit:

If that "driving experience" would be worth that price to you, then that's great. If I wanted a different driving experience, i would simply sell my 986 and buy it. For $279,000 I can buy over a dozen cars I would rather have than an old Porsche. I would certainly opt for a 1969 Ferrari Daytona over that P. I would opt for that "driving experience" . To each man his own preference. ;). And again, I would opt for a much newer twin turbo if I wanted to feel G's. Otherwise, I would drop a TT in my Boxster for 1/10th the price and have "the" driving experience.
