sound system problem (factory bose)

I have an unusual problem with my sound system and would like your input.

These are the 2 occasions and the symptoms that present itself. The 2 occasions are describe in A and B.

A. When I go for a 30+ minute drive, occasionally(perhaps 1 in 4 times), the sound system won't work at all after the restart of the engine. I have physically felt on the amp and it doesn't feel warm at all.

B. If it's cold out, example, colder than 55 degrees fahrenheit, the radio will not work.

The symptom:
1. The headunit will just display PORSCHE. Inserting a cd, ejecting a cd, ejecting the cd-cartridge under frunk, pressing fm, cd, am or any button on the radio does absolutely nothing. no sound.

2. The head unit will function perfectly fine, all buttons work, skipping track works, changing radio station work, but no sound.

I have an 03 Boxster S with Bose sound system.

check wiring, temp change makes wires expand and contract. could be a pin that is pulling out.

I have recently read that some are having issues with the amp overheating. Not sure I just replaced factory for kenwood.

my amp goes out all the time and its a crap roll on whether the damn cd player will work or not. There is a guy on ebay that reconditions the amp for like $180 or so but I'm thinking of getting rid of the crappy headunit and amp and putting in aftermarket stuff.
