Signs of a failed oil pump.

I am just curious as to what warnings will the boxster give if the oil pump fails or is failing. Apart from an increase in the temperature gauge, does the oil warning light up on the dashboard, or what other visible warning is present?

Usually the oil indicator will come on due to low or failing oil pressure. I have not heard of the pumps failing due to lack of general maintenance.
