Junior Varsity Question - Oil

After you read this, I am sure I will be back to the JV squad...After reading the owners manual...is the computer the only way to check the engine oil? Are the days of the dipstick over? I looked for the oil indicator (dipstick) and couldn't find it. Hold your laughter please until after the question is answered.

Believe it or not... no dipstick.... The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask... By the way I also have a basalt black 987, but with stone grey int.

Nice! I wish I would have went with the stone grey...I think it shows less dirt than beige.

Given the history of German electric sensors, I am more than wary of relying on the computer to tell me I need oil.

Just my two cents.

Good luck with the new ride!

The first time I pulled the dipstick out on my '99, I figured the bottom of the sump must be somewhere just behind the front license plate. Anything that long and whippy couldn't possibly accurately measure the contents of an oil tank.
I figure in the next iteration of the Boxster, the oil filler and the coolant filler will both disappear, requiring a visit to the dealer to add either.

I understand relying on electronics is a bad idea Brucelee, however the car doesn't come with a dipstick! Is there another way to measure the oil level besides relying on the electrons?

Talking

I don't know of any. MY rant was directed at Porsche of course. BTW- I would not be surprised if an aftermarket dip stick kit was produced.

Hold habits die hard.
