Another Tire Thread......

Hey Folks -

In the market for some new tires and possibly new wheels (depending on exam) after a left rear tire blowout on the freeway, entire sidewall on the inside had disappeared by the time I was able to stop, lucky for me I was taking an offramp at the time and my speed had slowed down to about 45mph when it had happened, but even so it did cause quite a bit of sway and control issues where I had suffered a bit of road rash on all four tires as the result of the small curve of the offramp and the curbs.

I was running:
Front: 225/40ZR18 Sumitomo HTR Z II
Rear: 285/30ZR -18 SUMITOMO HTR Z II
Only had about 1500 miles on them and lots of tread left, may be able to get away with just replacing the rears for now, but as I suffered the road rash am thinking of replacing the wheels and tires all at same time.

Although they were Ok tires but a bit noisy I am now looking for something a bit smoother and quite for summer use as I live in Houston and do not take it out during cold or wet weather.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

This spring I bought a set of Conti DWs (not DWS) for my Cayman and love them.

+1 on the Conti DW. Replaced the Pilot Sports with them April and put 11k miles on them before winter. I think they performed great! No track days, but always enjoying the curves.
