I still like them!!!
|
Replica seats could be made of Kevlar, I think that might be the Rotec reference another poster alluded to. That would definitely put them in the pricey range. But if they are simply Ebay replicas mounted onto some no name frame then they probably meet no racing standard, which imho are already pretty low for most inexpensive commercial racing seats -- not meant for daily driving because they would probably bend like Pepsi can in a real accident. I guess its like a novelty racing helmet (no certification) commemorating your favorite racing driver, might look nice on the book shelf but you probably wouldn't use it while in an actual car.

It's possible that they're older style GT3 seats from Max Speed Motorsports . Also, the crests look like someone may have simply stuck a set of raised decals on them .
|
if you remove the velcro seat cushions, there should be a rectangular opening for the racing belts to pass through. The padding for your back should also be velcro.
If they are replicas I would venture that this would have been stitched in place...why put in the extra time for something that probably won't be removed. |
Finally got an answer from the PO. Says they are Recaro style GT3 seats. They are carbon fiber with leather covering and cushions. The cushions do come off and held in place by velcro. There is a rectangular slot for the 3rd point of the seat belt to go thru. He said he paid around 1800 for them.
Anyone want to trade for black stock seats in excellent condition? Looking for motorized with heater. Even carrera (or other) seats that will fit the Boxster. I can do some rewiring if needed. Thanks |
too bad you are across the country, I have heated, electric, black stock seats in almost perfect condition
|
Gorgeous seats, trading them for the crappy standard seats is a minor tragedy!

Send me pics and details. Maybe we can make it work. Nothing is impossible.:) |

Maybe. But I have to find out myself I guess. I did drive a few with stock seats. Though not great I prefer them against these. Getting in and out of these (for me) is a pain in the butt. Literally! Then again I'm out to make the car as stock as possible. |

While you are there, PM me with your email too.
I'm at a postal disadvantage being in Australia, although I do not mind to wear the cost. I will also be overseas for a month just after Christmas and obviously not using my car so I can be without seats for a while, so this could possibly work to both our advantage. |
Email PMed to both.

I also paid 1800 for mine but that was a deeply discounted price on account of their being slightly used. |
Never got your pm
|
that means they are Rotec which you can buy for around 1200
|
Guys,
these are not original Recaro seats. I was told they are based on the Recaro GT3 style. I just took ownership and not very informed in this. If you like them and want to trade for stock seats that are in similar condition let me know. thanks. |
Sorry for a slight thread jack .. but since we're on the topic of GT3 seats .. will the OEM 997 GT3 seats fit a 986 ?
|
yep. You can use GT3 996 seats in a 997 as well. The mounting points must be exactly the same. No aftermarket rails required. I can swap in the stock seat in 10 minutes per side. Tip, don't use the socket extension for the torx bolts in the back, too much play.
