				Erratic shifting - Tip

I'm new to Boxsters and Tiptronic. I'm just a little curious about their shifting. On a couple of occasions it seems as if I confused the computer...

When coming to a fast corner sometimes I will tap the brake then hit the gas. It doesn't seem to know which gear to go into. Once it seemed as if it didn't want to go into any gear. I had to release the gas, hit it again then it went into a super low gear (I didn't pay attention to which gear). Just found this odd.

I remember reading a post that suggests resetting the Tiptronic computer to remove stored shifting modes. I can't seem to find this post. Can anyone help?

Thanks

there are no "stored" settings that you can affect. the car adjusts to your current driving style and selects one of a few different pre-programmed modes. once you relax your lead food, the car goes back to the default "granny" mode.

if you are going fast and slam on the brakes, it will downshift (if it can do so and stay below the red line). smash the accelerator and enter a turn, it will stay in the lower gear.

additionally, a "double tap" on the gas will downshift 2 gears, skipping the one in the middle; 5->3 vs. 5->4->3 for instance whereas a "single tap" downshifts only 1 gear.

Tap the brake, the hit the gas? That confuses me. Either you need to accelerate through the curve or downshift approaching the curve and accelerate out of the turn. Prepare for the turn, don't "tap" the brake. You're telling the car - you're confused.

Just saw this post, I know it's old, but here's a suggestion based on a trick I've learned with Tip, it's what Tony C. was talking about. When you're approaching a fast turn, right before you hit the braking point, "Tip" the throttle (i.e. depress the throttle to the floor very rapidly) and release, then start your braking. Tiptronic will downshift the engine smoothly and hold the gear as you finish braking and turn in, putting you in the optimal gear as you come off the apex and accelerate. I might mention it takes a bit of getting used to, as the last thing you think you'd want to do is floor it at the braking point, but if you do the "Tip" quickly it doesn't upset the car at all. By using the "Tip" feature, and the double-"Tip" feature (do it twice, will downshift 2 gears if possible within the allowed engine speed range), you can nearly eliminate any need for using the manual mode. Note that you're using the "Tip" to downshift for acceleration, you have to hold a fairly aggressive throttle angle (~75%) after doing a "Tip" if you want to keep it in the lower gear.

Sometimes I brake fairly quickly when approaching a red light and if I have a clear path while turning, I accelerate, them my Tip starts to think...whoa, he's ready to get it on...wham, I am put in second gear and then I have to use my thumb button to up-shift. If you don't like this feeling, drive like a Grandpa.
