Valet key? You mean the little plastic doohickey? That's not a valet key--it's just a "wallet key" as they say. It still opens the glove compartment and all that.

Wish I could be there for this. I'll put money on the fact that they've been in the salesman's desk drawer since delivery and he'll say "I've been meaning to call you and tell you I 'found' them for you!"
Right. Whack away, my friend!

Disclaimer for all the lawyers on this forum (and there seems to be quite a few!): When I said dealer whackin' it was just a figure of speech. I have a valid alibi that can be verified independently by an inanimate object...MY BOXSTER.

My comment WAS NOT a figure of speech. Sometimes, a good whacking is appropriate!

Now seriously--did you guys really get a REAL valet key or are you talking about the little black plastic key that's just a spare for emergencies?
A real valet key would be a key that does not open the glove compartment, and I doubt that anyone would want to give that little black key to a valet--it's plastic and I can't imagine it being all that durable.
If you got a real valet key, then _I_ also have a dealer whose ass I need to kick.

The definitive word...
It's a valet key...
It unlocks the car but...
If you try to unlock the glove compartment it sets off the alarm...
AND
If you try to open either fore or aft trunk using the in-cabin toggle it won't open the trunk and will also set off the alarm...
Good stuff !
If your little black key doesn't work like that, then yes there has been dealer screwage, but I suspect yours works just like mine, especially since we bought from the same dealer...

Huh. They told me that it WASN'T a valet key, and from what I read in the manual, it didn't seem to be either.
I'll give it a shot, hopefully you're right!
