One Key for 2005?

Um pardon me for being cheap, but did y'all only get one key with your new car???
Obviously I am new to the Porsche experience....

There would seem to be a screwup here...

My 987 came with two keys + valet....wonder who has your other keys?

Brucelee 07-05-2005 06:39 AM

Back to the dealer and whack your salesman roundly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dealer whackin' will commence at 1900 sharp.

Valet key? You mean the little plastic doohickey? That's not a valet key--it's just a "wallet key" as they say. It still opens the glove compartment and all that. :(

Rail26 07-05-2005 02:57 PM

doohickey...great word! Is that like a doomaflobby? Or a connectikazoink?

eslai 07-05-2005 02:58 PM

Hmm, apparently it's more like a thingamajig or a whatchamacallit...

Wish I could be there for this. I'll put money on the fact that they've been in the salesman's desk drawer since delivery and he'll say "I've been meaning to call you and tell you I 'found' them for you!"

Right. Whack away, my friend!

Rail26 07-05-2005 05:07 PM

What would I do without this forum?

bxstr-lvr 07-05-2005 05:08 PM

Yeah, they took you on this one - I received 2 keys and a valet key with my 05

Rail26 07-05-2005 05:29 PM

Disclaimer for all the lawyers on this forum (and there seems to be quite a few!): When I said dealer whackin' it was just a figure of speech. I have a valid alibi that can be verified independently by an inanimate object...MY BOXSTER.

Brucelee 07-05-2005 06:18 PM

My comment WAS NOT a figure of speech. Sometimes, a good whacking is appropriate!

:p

Two keys plus valet on 987 Yellow.

eslai 07-05-2005 10:16 PM

Now seriously--did you guys really get a REAL valet key or are you talking about the little black plastic key that's just a spare for emergencies?

A real valet key would be a key that does not open the glove compartment, and I doubt that anyone would want to give that little black key to a valet--it's plastic and I can't imagine it being all that durable.

If you got a real valet key, then _I_ also have a dealer whose ass I need to kick.

SD987 07-05-2005 11:32 PM

The definitive word...

It's a valet key...

It unlocks the car but...

If you try to unlock the glove compartment it sets off the alarm...

AND

If you try to open either fore or aft trunk using the in-cabin toggle it won't open the trunk and will also set off the alarm...

Good stuff !

If your little black key doesn't work like that, then yes there has been dealer screwage, but I suspect yours works just like mine, especially since we bought from the same dealer...

eslai 07-06-2005 08:15 AM

Huh. They told me that it WASN'T a valet key, and from what I read in the manual, it didn't seem to be either.

I'll give it a shot, hopefully you're right!
