Just bought my first Boxster

I actually bought it for my wife and I'm still waiting delivery. It's an 01 base model....

First thing I want to do is replace the radio. Since I'm always complaining to my wife about her phone usage while driving and since she's always lost, my main features must be bluetooth and nav. After comparing a few here's what I come up with

JVC's KW-NT3HDT:

My plan is to remove the radio and useless cup holder.

2 questions:
1. Is the installation of a 2 din system a direct fit, do I need an installation kit? Will the typical trim piece cover everything or leave any gaps?
2. Is there an available harness for these cars. I hate tapping into the OEM harness. I also plan on replacing the speakers, amps and maybe adding a small sub.

Any advise will help, thanks....

Welcome to the Forum!

Great looking car - congrats! The paint looks incredible.

Check out this thread. There's a lot of good information included. It is an older thread and looks like some of the pics are missing, but is should be helpful nonetheless.

Best of luck,

ddb

Don't have a problem with cup holders (heck, I have one in my race car ). I just don't agree on having one right above all the electronics. Don't you think the engineers would have looked at it and thought:

hmm, do you think something might spill all over the radio, climate controll.....?

I think the original engineers thought, this is a drivers car, a person like that will be engaged on shifting, braking, steering and the like; hence the after thought cup holder for the 98 and addendum to the manual. Nice car new guy! Welcome, I really like the pureness of the 986 I'm going to miss mine till it's replaced. In case you didn't know, those are the sport classic 17's, they were an option in that year. Mine was supposed to have those but the dealer took them off.

PS Is that your animal in the sigline?? nice

Here's another one, after a day at Daytona... I became real good friends with the tire barrier.
