In a related story, six engines failed because people just would not yield to the luminaries repeated warnings about BMC and K&N. Turns out rock sized chunks entered the intakes, oh the horror. One guy babies his 986 and it seizes another drives it like he stole it and it runs to 100K, that's life.

How much? I'd run used Swepco before new Royal Purple.

Hey JFP,

Question about the tranny fluid level. I did my 5 speed and 6 speed manual trans about a week apart 16 months ago. Without going into the garage to check the Bently Manual, I remember I had to make a little dipstick and have the fluid level 11 mm down from the opening. Is my memory good, bad or mixed up on this ? I guess I have to go get out the Bently and reread that part tonight.

JFP was right

Ok, JFP, you were right the first time... I think if I lived in Arizona, I'd stick with Royal Purple, but in Chicago, it's a noticable difference below 50 degrees.

Now I need to replace my tires so I'm thinking of sticking with the Pirelli P-Zeros because that were stock and I love their performance...

Thanks,
-SP

Swepco 201 was recommened for the 944's. I used it in all 3 of my cars. Stuff works great. I'm not sure about the boxster. There is literature and info on the web reagrding this issue. I wouldn't throw it out or sell it without a little research.
As a matter of fact, I'm going to do just that.

Pedro has a record of extolling the virtues of Swepco 201 in Boxster transmissions that can be found through a simple google search of Boxster + Swepco .

You are correct for the five speed, but not the six speed; the level in the five speed needs to be down a bit from the fill plug. Best tool for this is a bent wire or paper clip used as a "dipstick". The six speed is filled until it overflows.
