Road Trip!!
Das Jäger auto will be on tour starting tomorrow, leaving Santa Maria California early in the morning and headed towards Traverse City Michigan. Then after a week’s visit in Michigan make the return journey. Over 5000 miles (8047km) in 2 ½ weeks on a 2001 Boxster with 213,200 miles on it, what could possibly happen? Stand by for pictures.

check your spare! have fun.

Safe travels!
I'm looking forward to your report on how the car does. Cheers Mark |
I just did about 2700 miles in my '03S, from Maine to Wisconsin and back. Great trip. I did most of it top down. I found foam earplugs helped cut the noise on the Interstates, and still let the flat six symphony through.
Enjoy! |

Did I say leaving early in the morning?? Early is such a relative term... I got out the door around 9:00 AM Pacific Time. Currently I'm just east of Arvin California... Man is is hot, I'm not use to this heat. Stopped in one of my favorite areas to take a couple pictures. The car is running great... Highway 166 is a blast to drive.

At a rest stop... Can anyone identify the tree in the middle of the picture? They grow only in this part of the world.
|
Passing through Needles CA... Is it illegal to post and drive in AZ?

looks like the same one that was cut in half by a mini-gun on Mythbusters a while back. My, it's made a wonderful recovery! :D |

I made it to Flagstaff, man I like this part of AZ. Hit some hard rain on highway 40, had to slow down below 80 for a few miles. I saw alot of this on the freeway:

Good morning gang, next leg of the journey is to Amarillo TX. The weather in Flagstaff this morning is slightly overcast and low 70’s, what can I expect going into Texas today?
|
I'm curious as to how you packed the boxster for a week trip? Were you able to squeeze everything in there? Can you share some shots of the trunk(s)?
Cheers Mark |

I'm glad to see you have so much confidence in your boxster. I worry about driving a couple of hours away and I have only 53,000 miles. My question is why are you going through Texas on your way to Michigan. Seems out of the way unless your wanting to see that part of the country. I used to live in Michigan so now is the time of year to enjoy a trip along Lake Michigan. I am pulling for you.
If you get by Louisville, KY on your way home stop and say hi. Wishing you a great trip. I am a little jealous. :) |
great posts, keep them coming. How's the gas mileage going?

Chances a Boxster will blow up on you are guaranteed to be under 1.5%. So take you 98.5%+ chances and enjoy it. CR |

I appreciate the wealth of information on this forum, but it has also made me extremely paranoid. Road trips really make me nervous (left turn signal went out on my last road trip). Jager, good luck on the trip. Thanks for posting the photos. |

I'm at the New Mexico border, the scenery has changed a bit.

Getting closer to the Texas state border... Has anyone heard the song Highway 40 Blues? Driving the last 100 miles has become a little dull, the landscape is flat and the road is straight. The only viewable entertainment is the lightning scattered to the north of me. I got my kicks on Route 66 now I'm starting to sing the Highway 40 Blues. Things will get much better tomorrow when I get into Oklahoma.

Hey, Jäger, my friend lives in Fayetteville, and she's been seeing a lot of Boxsters lately, she tells me. It seems you're not quite in that territory yet, but I told her to keep a lookout for yours in the area when I saw that you said you're headed to Springdale.
Have fun, and enjoy the scenery change. |
Wow, you're very brave to do this with a 213k miles porsche! I assume you have also brought along some car cleaning supplies?
I've always wanted to do a cross-country road trip with a convertible...! It's the American Dream come true! Oh and I hope you stay out of bat country. |

Two Big Rigs caught fire on west-bound highway 40, near the New Mexico/Texas state border, investigation under way.
You saw it here first on 986forum. News at 1100. |

I don't know ! Those rims look a little small for today's big dubb wheels.
|
I've enjoyed reading this thread.
Good luck on your journey! Have fun! |
Cool thread haha, I'll jump in your ride - subscribed.
And btw... don't you have no feelings for other members who would (possibly) kill to be able to do what you are doing?! AZ sunsets, Lone Star state wonderings, Texannnn style burgers, breakfast biscuits, driving along, a PORSCHE, actually thinking of all this you are horible mate ;) Keep them coming, awsome drive |
Safety first, but go fast!!! Watch out for deers, UFO and the nite crawlers :0
|
Good Morning! I am actually up and getting on the road early (6:00 AM). This leg of the journey will take me to Springdale Arkansas... Approximately 8 hours road time taking it easy.

I saw a Escalade with those same wheels this weekend. Sounds like a great trip thus far. Thanks for sharing. |
Wow. Cool thread. Keep this coming.
In just over a month We'll be taking a semi-long road trip to Flagstaff,Az for PCA Escape. Leaving from SF-Bay Area. I'm really looking towards this drive. Seeing you're already on a road trip it's making me jealous. Cheers |

i'm so sorry you have to drive into arkansas. the most miserable parts of my trips are always through arkansas. the trucks tear up the roads and they are absolutely horrendous. (oh and watch out for troopers - if you see Trooper Perry of the Humbolt Co. Sherrif's Department tell him I said hello.) wait until you see all the bugs that collect on your bumper. did you bring any car wash supplies? |
