Road Trip!!

Das Jäger auto will be on tour starting tomorrow, leaving Santa Maria California early in the morning and headed towards Traverse City Michigan. Then after a week’s visit in Michigan make the return journey. Over 5000 miles (8047km) in 2 ½ weeks on a 2001 Boxster with 213,200 miles on it, what could possibly happen? Stand by for pictures.

Safe travels!

I'm looking forward to your report on how the car does.

Cheers

I just did about 2700 miles in my '03S, from Maine to Wisconsin and back. Great trip. I did most of it top down. I found foam earplugs helped cut the noise on the Interstates, and still let the flat six symphony through.

Enjoy!

Did I say leaving early in the morning?? Early is such a relative term... I got out the door around 9:00 AM Pacific Time. Currently I'm just east of Arvin California... Man is is hot, I'm not use to this heat. Stopped in one of my favorite areas to take a couple pictures. The car is running great... Highway 166 is a blast to drive.

At a rest stop... Can anyone identify the tree in the middle of the picture? They grow only in this part of the world.

Passing through Needles CA... Is it illegal to post and drive in AZ?

That would be a Joshua Tree or the yucca brevifolia.

That tree

looks like the same one that was cut in half by a mini-gun on Mythbusters a while back. My, it's made a wonderful recovery! :D

I made it to Flagstaff, man I like this part of AZ. Hit some hard rain on highway 40, had to slow down below 80 for a few miles. I saw alot of this on the freeway:

Objects In Mirrow Are Closer Than They Appear

I think this was the tree used in Mythbusters:

I would not survive with the top down driving through this part of the country.

Good morning gang, next leg of the journey is to Amarillo TX. The weather in Flagstaff this morning is slightly overcast and low 70’s, what can I expect going into Texas today?

Appleguy 07-31-2011 07:16 AM

I'm curious as to how you packed the boxster for a week trip? Were you able to squeeze everything in there? Can you share some shots of the trunk(s)?

Cheers

Mark

Get ready for some visual boredom and the nice aroma of cattle :barf: when you get to Amarillo, you may want to put the top up

I'm glad to see you have so much confidence in your boxster. I worry about driving a couple of hours away and I have only 53,000 miles. My question is why are you going through Texas on your way to Michigan. Seems out of the way unless your wanting to see that part of the country. I used to live in Michigan so now is the time of year to enjoy a trip along Lake Michigan. I am pulling for you.
If you get by Louisville, KY on your way home stop and say hi.

Wishing you a great trip. I am a little jealous. :)

great posts, keep them coming. How's the gas mileage going?

There is nothing to worry about. I drove mine from Santa Monica, CA all the way to Ottawa, ON, Canada, passing through Las Vegas, Denver, Des Moines, Port Huron and finally Ottawa. Over 3,000 miles. Car performed flawlessly. Of course I got it all checked out before leaving and as the MAF was still the original and going bad I got it replaced.

Chances a Boxster will blow up on you are guaranteed to be under 1.5%. So take you 98.5%+ chances and enjoy it.

+1
I appreciate the wealth of information on this forum, but it has also made me extremely paranoid. Road trips really make me nervous (left turn signal went out on my last road trip).

Jager, good luck on the trip. Thanks for posting the photos.
