Hardtop Storage

Ok folks, how do you store your hardtop? I bought one, installed it, and now I'm afraid to take it off lest it get beaten to death in my garage...

Other folks have racks and carts. The advantage of the lift for me is that it is out of the way and I can take it on and off without bugging a neighbor.

I have still yet to measure the parts list. I will do it if someone really needs it.

Tools needed

Hack/jig saw/something to cut pvc pipe
PVC Glue
Scissor for the padding/pipe insulation
6 - 1"pvc caps
10 - 1" pvc T's
2 - 1" 90dg. elbows
3 - 8' 1"pvc
1 can of rustoleum plastic spray paint. What ever color floats your boat.
1 8' piece of any size copper piping insulation ( I think I used 3/4", it doesn't wrap all the way around. Just open it and lay it on there.

I got it all at home depot.

I've got one of the Porsche wall mounts. It works well, though I had a problem with the holes that the spinock go into. I had to modify them so they would work right. I would not recommend that solution unless it is in a place where it will not get bumped. The aluminum used for the mount is very thin and the first time I mounted it the top pulled right out (bending the aluminum). I am going to put a strap on my wall as a backup in case it ever pulls out again, since it is on the wall above the hood of my Firehawk. Don't want it falling on that.

It's also a PITA to get the top onto the mount. My wife and I put it up there, and it's tricky.

I use the porsche wall mount and also a cover with a large logo. No issues like the earlier poster. I bought mine used from the classified section.

It is a two person job to take it off the car and hang on the wall though.

I made a stand for mine but looking into making a hoist so I can use it more. I live in the northeast and its getting cold. I don't drive mine in the winter but it would be nice to use it more often. Problem I might have is my garage ceiling is not very high.

It may be less expensive to buy a used one than to collect the parts to build your own.

How high is your garage ceiling?

After contemplating building one myself, I found this on Ebay and just spent the money. I figured the time savings more than offset the cost. The casters alone would have cost $20+. It also came with a cover. It works great. I don't have a high enough ceiling in my garage to have it hanging in the middle indefinitely.

I have a hoist. One piece of advice. Wrap all the hardware with rubber tape or something to keep you from scratching the top. I learned that the hard way
