Newbie - Just saying hi...

Have been reading these forums for a while and am now the proud owner of a 2001 Boxster Tip. Good service history, 74,000 miles, 18" GT2 alloys and LOTS of fun to drive... Just need a nice long spell of really good weather
Only one minor issue so far and that's with an engine warning light. Car bought in London and drove 400 miles home and the warning light came on after about 100 miles. I filled up with fuel before I left and wondered if a) It didn't like the fuel I used or b) the fuel cap is slightly dodgy... I'm not too worried (yet) but would appreciate some thoughts.. Is the only way to know to take it to a garage and get the code checked?
Thanks in advance (you seem to be a helpful bunch )
Pete
