Stero Options...

When I choose the 'cdc' option on my cdr-220 it gives a ticking sound no audio playback...doesn't even let me change disc or anything. Sometimes it doesn't even read the 'cdc' it just says 'aux' with the ticking sound. Anyone have a clue whats going on?

How hard is it to install an FM transmitter or wire and iPod to a cdr-220?

I bought a cable from Iwirep.com (no affiliation) for $50 shipped and it took all of about 3 mins to install. Just have to make sure it works with your ipod. It plugs into where the disc changer would go so if you use that you'd have to decide which one is more important to you. My car didn't come with the 6 disc, but if it did I'd still go the ipod route

Pressing the "S" button repeatedly will switch between audio input sources (radio, CD, CDC or AUX). CDC is the CD Changer. If you don't have a CD changer installed, then there isn't any input and the head unit won't play anything (you seem to hearing a ticking noise).

If the AUX mode is displayed, then the head unit is looking for an AUX iput signal in the place of the CD Changer. This is how most people use their iPods or MP3 players.

Here are two cables that can be plugged into the rear of the CDR-220 and will either provide an iPod or AUX connection. Installation is pretty easy.

There are three types of Apple cables available depending on which iPod or iPhone you have. Be sure to get the right one.

Is there a cable for connecting just a 3.5mm audio jack? I'd like to be able to connect my smartphone as well as my iPod to the CDR220. iPod charges last a long time, I'm not worried about not connecting it to power.

Am I going to need the "radio removal tool" to add this cable?

TIA

Yes, or you could go to the local car stereo installer who would likely pop it out for no charge or not much.
