Central Locking Unit. HELP

The Central Locking unit on my 97 Boxster got wet. I ordered a new one, and it is installed. I know I need to get it re-programmed by the dealer (70 miles away).

My question is, should the car still start with out the new one being programmed. The dealer said yes, but my experience thus far has been no.

Fwiw- All the lights on the dash come on. The heated seats work. No window/locks and the car will not start.

Is this normal? I'd rather drive the car than tow it if possible. Any suggestions?

Towed

I believe you will need to have it towed.

yeah, I think it should still run... mine drowned last month and I seem to recall the shop (not a dealer) mentioning at one point the car ran but need the new computer and it would have to be reprogramed
