NHP Exhaust Review for AKL

"ddb, I see you have the entire NHP exhaust system. How do you like the sound of the muffler? Any troublesome drone around 2krpm or any other problems?

AKL"

Allen,

I've had the exhaust on for about a year and a half and love it! I looked at less expensive systems as well as more expensive systems and thought the NHP offered good quality at a decent price. I don't remember what the muffler alone cost but I think the complete system was around $2k.

Just a little background: I drove my car for a couple of years without any desire to make any exhaust changes. After reading about folks removing the intake snorkel, I thought I would give it a try. Bad move! I was hooked on the additional intake noise, especially off idle. I then installed an aftermarket muffler that was definitely louder, but droned like crazy around 65 MPH in my 2.7 5-speed. If I could cruise at 75 MPH or greater, or a lot lower than 65 MPH, it was tolerable. Removing the factory muffler also demonstrated how much weight I was saving.

So the drone from the first aftermarket muffler and the desire for a complete system lead me to the NHP system. It is difficult for me to describe the sound of the system, but I will give it a try. And of course this is subjective. The complete system is about perfect for me. I think I described it in an earlier thread as what you would expect an exhaust system to sound like from the factory on a car like a Boxster. It has a free-flowing, sporty-car sound. It is definitely louder than the OE system, and drone isn't detectable at all IMO. I wouldn't recommend this muffler/system for someone that really wants a loud exhaust, because it isn't that loud. I'm still riding around with my hardtop on and with the windows up you barely notice the system. But, with the windows down or the hardtop removed you really notice the nice exhaust note.

I've read some criticisms of the header design. But for the cost, quality, and perceived performance gains (I haven't been on a dyno), it is a huge improvement over OE. No affiliation with NHP or Maxspeed Motorsports. Just a satisfied customer. Sorry for the lengthy response.

Hope this helps,

ddb
