Calling Australians!

Hey guys,

Hoping you can help, just bought a 2000 Boxster 2.7, 104k on the clock.

During my ppi it was identified I needed a new clutching the next year. I am hoping to do this soon and also get the ims swapped with an ln engineering part.

Who here has had this done in the Sydney/Canberra area? If so who did u use and were they good?

Also a ball park figure regarding price would be nice

Thanks for your help!

Tobz

A member on here who has had the upgrade done in Sydney is pinarelloman.
He might chime in or you can send him a PM.
I had my Boxster S clutch / IMS / RMS etc installed last year, but that was in Brisbane.
Cost is approx $3,750 including shipping, special installation tool, etc if I remember correctly.

Five working days from drop off - but they have to remove the clutch before they can determine if you have a single row or a double row bearing. Untill you remove the clutch and see the size & shape of IMS cover, you are never 100% certain what bearing is in your engine. Only then can you order the correct part.

Toby, I have sent you a PM, but just in case.
The IMS,clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and thrust bearing replacement was done by Bob Whyms auto in Seven Hills Sydney.
Total cost for all parts and a new motor mount (supply only) was $4500.
The procedure took about 4 days.
My IMS was perfect at 66,000km.
Peace of mind.

Sorry one more question, what's the advantage of a low temp thermostat?

Tobz,
You should probably contact Bob Whyms anyway, as I understand he is the importer/distributor for the LN engineeringIMS fix.

Also try the guys at PR Technology Brookvale. They had a ceramic bearing replacement for the M96 engine when I was there last week. It wasn't the LN one, but may do the same thing.

Advantage of low temp thermostat read below.

I ended up calling PR technology and they can supply the ims ceramic for about 700 + 8 hous labour at 121 an hour.

Richard seemed like a really nice guy, so I hoping to book it in soon!

Thanks heaps for all your help! Uve both been heaps of help!

Do yourself a favour and ask them how much for a new clutch pressure plate & dual mass flywheel. While you are paying for the labour to have the transmission removed you may as well have a new clutch etc fitted.
When my IMS was replaced the old clutch felt fine, however, upon removal it was cactus. The new clutch assy felt much better and also had a lighter action.
Typically clutch, p plate, flywheel and bearing assemblies cost about $2000.
This will bring your cost almost inline with Bob Whyms.
So compare the two and ask PRT how many have they done.
Also, what year is your vehicle? Single or dual bearing?

Hey man,

Thanks for the info, talked to bob today, got a quote to do the clutch kit, fly wheel, rms, ims, water pump, engine mount (front), spark plug tubes and o rings for around 6500. It's a lot of money, but I'm getting it done with him. At least that should mean lower ongoing maintenance costs for the next few years!

If you are handy with a spanner, you can do the engine mount, spark plugs, tubes,o rings and water pump yourself. Plenty of how to on this board and on Pelican Parts.

Yer I use to tinker with my motorbike, but at the moment I just can't, some idiot in a 4wd rear ended me on my bike while I stopped for a red light, so my backs fractured in 3 places atm, luckily I can walk etc, but anything more kills me plus I just want the car done I got it reasonably cheap after bargaining with a guy for a week, so it's covered all these costs anyway

Thanks so much for ur help! Canberra needs a mechanic who can do all this, but I guess we are too small
