Xavier: You got it! Your's looks like the changes they need to make to dump the TT-top. Your's makes it look like Pinnin-Farina (sp?) got the final sketches. Love it...

..and Jeph: I'll bet the aftermarket guys are already drooling over the changes they can offer. Those 'fogs' are the first thing to unbolt.

Good work guys.

I think it looks good, especially the inside but I also agree that it is a little TT'esque. I guarantee once someone throws some staggered deep lip type wheels on it everyone will be wanting one.

I just got done reading about the car in the latest Autoweek(Cayman S). Porsche claims a top speed of 171mph and a 0-62mph time of 5.3 sec. These figures seem a tad conservative(particularly the 0-62 time seeing that a 987 S will do 0-60 in 5 flat). Strangely enough, the Cayman S weighs 11lbs more than a 987 Boxster S. They attributed this somewhat to the large rear hatch with the big plate of glass. Also, the Cayman S has the 3.4L engine so the car is probably beefed up more in certain places.

From the looks of the pic with the rear lid up, this is fer sure going to be a car you can only work on from the bottom side. You will need arms like a chimpanzee to get at anything from the top.
A good looking car in any event, although I think I could do without the round fog lights.
Let's see, if I can peddle my '99 for about $25k, that would only leave me about $40k short ... oh well, maybe a used one in a few years.

Love the new design. The retro theme on the Carrera GTS is obvious as per the website intro. Its a shame they didnt go for the top down option such as the SLK or the new Lexus with the 3 part folding tin top, but still a great looking car.

I believe the opening price in Australia is around the $160,000 mark which puts it line ball with the new Boxster S at around $152,000.

Going to be very interesting where this sits in the market and with enthusiasts.

The 911 is a fine car and I don't see it going anywhere. There is plenty of room in the line for these cars; Zealots are each side are .......well, zealous!

Horses for courses!

well its like when the airforce retired the Blackbird.
It was still the fastest plane to cross the country but time to move on.
Either Porsha will unleash the Cayman on the racing scene and potentialy upstage the 911 or ....

Talking

I just saw new pictures of the Cayman in Car and Driver. Based on THOSE pictures, I really hated the car's looks.

Did anyone else see those pics and if so, what do you think?

The back end reminded me of a 93 RX 7!

RX7? uggh...A P-Car should never be confused with a Japanese sports car!
Porsche should call up Maserati and ask them to put in those GranSport headlights. They really droped the ball on those 987/997 headlights.
If not the GranSports, maybe The new Aston Martin headlights which are nice too, as are the Ferrari 575 GTC.

i know that car styling is a mater of personal taste, but i like the styliing of every porsche ever made over that of the maseratis...my neighbor has a gt coupe, and to me it looks like a cheap jap. car vs a n italian sports cars...maserati has a been a big failure for ferrari and they dont sell and depreciate like crazy mainly because most people dont like the looks

I'm not sure that Maserati is doing too bad. They are afterall rebranded Ferraris. And today's Ferrari's are without question the best the little company have ever produced and their sales, like Porsche, have gone to record highs. Here in NYC we had a Ferrari/Maserati show in Rockefeller plaza and I was able to see them load all the cars back onto the transports. THe Maseratis are something to behold and hear. I'll take one in Pearl white with Blue stripes please.

Uuhhhhhh, well it's a COUPE. Coupes have fixed roofs. They are more rigid structurally than roadsters, and they also weigh less becuase roadsters need additional bracing to reduce cowel shake, among other things. Therefore, coupes handle better on the track than roadsters. Plus, some of us don't like being bleached by the hot sun all day. And don't forget the Cayman S has 295 hp.

I agree- It was only on certain occasions that I really enjoyed the conv. of the boxster that I recently sold- maybe because mine was triple black and was really hot most of the time! I loved my boxster but I think I will love my new Cayman more with the extra power that I think we all know that the boxster deserves and can easily handle! We will see- my local dealer is telling me that I am looking at a march - april delivery and I think that is going to be a very long wait....
