what year did the boxster come out with the exhaust system that has 4 catalytic convertors as opposed to 2? and why? are they interchangeable? ie.. i have a rattle in my rear most right cat of the 4...can i purchase from a boxster that has only 2 cats and replace it? will it fit? how do i plug the oxygen sensor hole?

thanks for any advice.

The 2.7 and 3.2 engine variants were equipped with 4 cats. The secondary cats can easily be deleted with no concerns regarding emissions or cel's .

Boxsters were fitted with 2.7 and 3.2. engines from '00 onward . In order to bypass the secondary cats, you'll need to purchase a set of bypass pipes . Fabspeed and Schnell are two companies that come to mind .

MY 2000 is when the standard box got a 2.7 motor. At this point, they all recieved 4 cats in USA spec. I think they did this due to emissions restrictions...

See the attached link from 2007. J.Fro does a great job of commenting here.

So after reading that, you need to go back to a pre-2000 or just get rid of the cats altogether. I did and I love it! You do NOT have to reflash DME either. I have a mechanic in Nashville, Tn that can do it with no additional DME mods.

Here is a couple of other options out there too... They do cost though...
