This thread is nearly 2 years old...
However, I bought a water pump from JR 3 years ago and when it arrived, found it's a genuine Porsche water pump - identical part # to my original.....

As I understand it these are rather cheaply made parts, and I wouldn't be surprised if you're at more risk of failure of the component overall as opposed to just the impeller in that case, not that either is desirable. I think if the ones with a metal impeller were that good there'd be much more talk of them and their impressive performance.
